2) Norwich council bulky waste collection service
Norwich council charges £24.50 to collect 1 item. They will only collect large free-standing household items, including items from the list below:
- Furniture - including sofas, armchairs, chairs, bedroom furniture, desks, coffee tables, table and chair sets
- White goods - cookers, fridge/ freezers, washing machines
- Household appliances - microwaves, speakers, TVs, toasters, hoovers
- Larger flat items - ironing boards, sideboards
- Bicycles
- Rabbit hutches
See an extensive list of accepted and prohibited items here. To get rid of items that the council cannot collect, see our section on Man & Van collections or check whether Norwich's recycling centres accept your items.
How to book the collection service
You can start the booking process from this page.
On your allocated collection day, place your items on the edge of your property near to the road by 6:30 am. If you live in a flat, leave the item on the ground floor. It needs to be outside the building where the collection team can easily identify it. The council will only collect from properties inside the Norwich city council area.
If you need to cancel or rearrange a collection, call the council: 0344 980 3333. Be aware that booking a collection is non-refundable.
3) Licensed man & van waste collectors
Another option is to hire a licensed man & van rubbish collector. This is a great alternative if the council can't collect the items you have, if you need a collection done quickly or urgently or if you can't lift the items yourself. Man & van collectors can clear most types of waste, can usually come on the day if necessary and can go inside your property to help.
All waste collectors must carry an Environment Agency license and valid public liability insurance. It's illegal to let anybody else take your waste away (and you run the risk of it getting fly tipped!) so always check.

4. Skip hire Norwich
Skips are useful if you have messy waste or rubble to get rid of. However, unlike man & van collectors, you'll need to load the skip yourself. Skip prices are fixed so it doesn't matter how full or empty the skip is, you'll pay the same. It's usually much more expensive to hire a skip because of additional permit and license fees.

Skip hire prices in Norwich
Below are typical skip hire prices (including VAT) for a mixed general waste skip in Norwich. The prices represent a hire period of 14 days. They don't include the necessary skip permits or parking bay suspensions for Norwich.
Builder skip: 6 - 8 cubic yard skip @ £260 - £270
Maxi skip: 10 - 12 cubic yard skip @ £325
Skip permits and bay suspensions
You only need a skip permit if you’re going to put the skip on a public highway (a verge, path or road that is not within your property). Your skip hire company will apply for the skip permit and add it to the final price. This is because you need a waste carrier’s certificate to apply for the permit through the council. If you live in one, you might also need a controlled parking zone (CPZ) suspension.
